I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have been married to a wonderful woman, Dela, for 43 years. Together we have four adult children and 13 grandchildren.
The Huss family left Minnesota in August of 1992 to venture south into Texas, destination Houston. I am an ordained Baptist minister in the Baptist General Conference and came to Houston as a national church planter to establish a seeker sensitive church touching the hearts of those who were wounded in their faith walk and in need of God's grace, giving them the hope of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I have a servant's heart with the desire of witnessing the powerful language of God's love, touching the hearts of people through the dynamic venue of music. It is when the individual heart is filled with God grace and love that an awesome miracle unfolds through a new and reborn life.
I have played drums most of my life. My musical career began 25 years ago as the drummer in the praise and worship band at church.
In 2008 I joined Blues2Joy. We play to the homeless, the imprisoned and to wandering souls in general, which is a state we all find ourselves in at some point in our lives. I guess I receive more of a blessing from those we minister to as they say they receive from us.
The Blues2Joy Band is made up of more than just musicians. Our ranks include ordained and dedicated pastors who preach the Word of God and all are Brothers in Christ Jesus, my personal Lord and savior.

I grew up in rural, north central Missouri. The family moved to Kansas during my last semester of high school. I earned my Ph.D. in Biology from Kansas State University, then went on to complete a National Institutes of Health – U.S. Public Health Service postdoctoral fellowship at Tulane University Medical School. Following my fellowship, I had faculty appointments in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at two medical schools.
After 20 years in academia I moved to the private sector spending another 30 years managing R&D, intellectual property, quality, health, safety and environmental compliance for a publicly traded company. I am now retired and getting reacquainted with many interests and hobbies including hiking, amateur radio, microscopy, astronomy, archery, etc. Hiking is a wonderful pass time for me. I have hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the John Muir Wilderness and the Wind River Range.
I have been married to my wife Diana since 1972 and I am a father and grandfather. I grew up in Baptist churches and was baptized when I was thirteen. Diana and I have attended Bible and Evangelical Free churches over the years. I began teaching a Jr. High boys Sunday School class in 1970 and continue to be involved in the ministry of teaching at my church. I have served in churches as both a deacon and an elder over the years.
I have been teaching since 1970 in both the sciences and the Bible and very much enjoy apologetic discussions in the areas of faith and science. I look forward to bringing that conversation to the podcast world with The Blues2Joy Ministry Project.
"The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid? " (Psalm 27:1)
Mike Pierce up on the West Texas plains, surrounded with incredible men and women who invested their lives to mentor him in Biblical scripture, Christian doctrine, and outreach to those who would hear God's word.
Through God's providence, Mike was blessed with marriage to a wonderful wife, the birth of four absolutely perfect children, and subsequently with 13 amazing grandchildren. August 2022 will represent our 50th anniversary.
The Holy Spirit uniquely called Mike to serve in executive and project management positions in the oil and gas pipeline industry in the US, in Europe, and in Southeast Asia.
In 1998, the Holy Spirit guided Mike into a musician/songwriter/minister relationship with Blues2Joy Band. Shortly afterwards, efforts with Blues2Joy were joined to World Hope Missions, opening ministry opportunities in schools, prisons, and churches in South Africa, Kenya, and Ukraine.
From 2012 into 2022, Mike served as pastor of a local Cowboy Congregation in Cypress, Texas. Now in 2022, the LORD is preparing Mike and Lynn for a new and possibly greatest adventure of their lifetimes.
God Is Good! All The Time!
I was raised in Houston, Texas into a religious home and attended church regularly with my family. Later in life I discovered that while we were believers in God as a family, I didn't have any real assurance of salvation. In high school I started dating a girl that insisted that if we were to date regularly that I go to church with her. This placed me under the sound of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as I had never heard it before and just before my 18th. birthday I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. I am happy to say that girl is now my wife since 1970. Though life has sent some challenges my way, I have never regretted that decision.
I learned to play guitar at the age of 6 when my Dad purchased an acoustic guitar for me from Sears. He taught me the basics being a band musician himself in the late 1930’s and 1940’s after WWII. I went on to play in secular bands in the 1960’s and shared the stages with talents like B.J.Thomas, Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland and Albert Collins. I met Ron Hathaway in the late 1980’s and we formed The Good News Band with another musician, Scott Atkinson. The Blues2Joy Band was formed from the Good News Band to be more in line with the ministry goals. I count it an honor and a privilege to be a part of such a vital ministry as The Blues2Joy Ministry Project.
